A Birthing Room

Bird’s Eye View 2022/ Mama (Nab) and sweet babe, (Zuzia) napping during the sweltering afternoon heat. Nab is the stunningly strong, innovative, and beautiful mother of 3 daughters and her son, Zuzia. She is part of the women’s collective asking for a safe and secure birthing room with accessible medical supplies. They are in the midst of collecting traditional herbal remedies to store in the apothecary serving all future mothers and all of the village.   The Women of Manoa village have no access to a clean and safe place to give birth. The Infant Mortality Death rate is too high in Burkina Faso. Many pregnant women fall through the cracks because of the failure of the government’s infrastructure. And after the coup d’etat in January, there is simply no health care system. Each village is on its own. The main causes of death are delivery complications, infection, pneumonia, and diarrhea. Securing a safe and clean environment will help to bring healthy babies into this world. The apothecary will store the herbal medicines collected throughout the seasonal year, aiding mothers and their babies before, during, and after birth. Medicines are collected to serve the entire village.

Solution: A lot of the complications in birthing are preventable. Building a small concrete medical clinic to facilitate and support the birthing process for women and the health of their babies.
