Living in Two Worlds

The Dagara are distinguished by their devotion to the Ancestors, the elemental world of Nature, and the healing power of community. They are well known throughout the continent of Africa for the strength of their belief and practices that outsiders find fascinating and otherworldly.

In the West, we have forgotten the profound connection to our Ancestors. And we have forgotten our connection to the earth beneath our feet. And as we lose our sense of place in Nature, we lose our sense of Home inside our own bodies. As we make the reach to help the Dagara survive into the future by accessing potable water —these wise, and generous people living in the bush are equally committed to helping us remember what it means to be in relationship with our Ancestors and the elemental world.

Times are changing and participation in the Dagara tribe’s spiritual rituals and celebrated elemental earth-based technology has only grown during the pandemic as we seek ways to steady our lives through the ever-changing outbreak, recovery, and political upheavals. How do we step out of fear and stay grounded with the earth and with our Ancestors? If interested in finding your way back Home in times of upheaval, please reach out to work with Doh and the Village.
